Local tips

Where we are

We live in Bondi (see map for all of these places) in our tiny two bed flat at 5/22a New St. It's basically halfway between Bondi Junction (a Westfield shopping mall including Coles and Woolworths supermarkets and the Bondi Junction train station) and Bondi Beach where the venue at the Pavillion is to be held.

There also is a Woolworths and Harris Farm located at Bondi Beach (buses all day until late). A walk to Bondi Beach from our place is about 20 minutes. Buses are frequent.

Roughly, the coastline is N-S. East is the ocean and the snazzy burbs, 6kms in is the city, then the inner west (boho), followed by the West and the Blue Mountains. Bondi Beach roughly aligns to this.

Getting around

Buses, trains and ferries. All can be accessed easily by tapping on and off with any credit card, or you can buy an Opal Card at the Bondi Junction train station or at a retailer To work out schedules use Google maps or the Opal Travel app

Accommodation

Airbnb or Meriton serviced apartments in Bondi Junction. Anything further west of the city is probably a bit far. Mascot/airport area is cheaper.

Hungry and thirsty

If in Bondi our favourite places to eat are: Lox Stock and Barrel, Blackwood, Harry's, the Depot, with the Bondi Public School hosting a market on Sat/Sun.

Afternoon drinks with a view best found at North Bondi RSL, or Icebergs RSL (in the south), or just at the Pavilion (center). Or local ones on Hall St: the Beekeeper or Bikini Bar.

Night favourites are on Hall Street, the local Bikini Bar or Mammasaaan, for a cocktail. Beach Road for a beer, or even Icebergs Restaurant for a posh cocktail (note: RSL and restaurant are separate).

Touristing

Well, if you're near Bondi, you've got Icebergs salt water swimming pool, the coastal walk to Coogee, then a bus ride away is the Art Gallery NSW (Aboriginal and excellent underground tank exhibit), the Botanical Gardens and Opera House are all around the same spot.

Not far is the Rocks, MCA (contemporary art), the Harbour Bridge (you can climb it for a price), Darling Harbour with IMAX, amazing waterplay for kids, Chinese Gardens and Chinatown also in the city.

Further down is the Aquarium (it has got a Dugong!) and a ferry ride over to Taronga Zoo.
